What you will achieve

Enable A2-level learners to reach the B1 CEFR level in professional English, in preparation for the DCL English diploma — a single 2h30 exam. The B1 level marks the transition to linguistic independence in professional English.

  • Understand the key points of a clear oral message in standard English
  • Read professional texts and understand the description of events and processes
  • Handle most professional situations in an English-speaking environment
  • Produce simple and coherent speech on familiar professional topics
  • Pass the DCL English B1 examination in 2h30

Expressing opinions and preferences, suggesting and recommending, giving advice, negotiating and finding compromises, professional idiomatic expressions

Facilitating a meeting, presenting a project or strategy, commenting on figures, politely interrupting, managing questions and objections, note-taking

Negotiation and conflict management 5h

Negotiation vocabulary, expressing conditions, making concessions, diplomatically refusing, managing disagreements, confirming an agreement

Complex emails (proposals, negotiations, follow-ups), simple professional reports, meeting minutes, commercial proposals, formal letters

How is the course delivered?

Pedagogy

In-person courses. Communicative and action-oriented approach. Realistic professional case studies. Mid-course simulation (after 35h). 2 complete DCL English B1 simulations with debriefing and personalised progression plan.

B1 professional English manuals with authentic materials. Complex professional documents (reports, case studies, contracts). Authentic audio and video materials (presentations, interviews, negotiations). DCL B1 practice papers. English-language business press (Financial Times, The Economist). Interactive whiteboard.

Trainers

Qualified professional English trainers (Master's in Applied Languages or equivalent), experience teaching B1 professional English, knowledge of the CEFR and DCL English, solid experience in the business world and international professional sectors.
